Bottle gourd/ Long Melon
According to ayurveda, bottle gourd is not only rich in essential minerals, iron, protein and trace elements; it is also rich in fibre.This vegetable is excellent for balancing liver function for most people. It is often recommended by ayurvedic physicians when the liver is inflamed and cannot efficiently process food for maximum nutrition and assimilation.

It is good for people who are suffering from excessive aggravation of Pitta Dosha. It is easily digestible and improves appetite. It is very good for stomatitis or mouth ulcers, hyperacidity and GRED. It is also good for Diarrhoea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Indigestion. It is highly recommended for post-surgical patients.This recipe is Vata Pitta Shamak(pacifying) and easy to digest.
Recipe :
Heat pan and add ghee
Add cumin seeds, carom seeds, pinch of asafoetida
Add onions and green chillies and sauté till it becomes brown
Add tomatoes and cover the lid till they soften
Add spices and stew for some time
Add cut long melon (Lauki)
Cook on a medium flame till become tender and soft
Finish with lots of coriander
